1.3 Future Versions
There will be no future versions written.
2.0 What does FAKE-COUNTER (FAKECNT.EXE) do
I wrote this program after I made major adjustments to my BBS
which meant totally rebuilding the system.
After a few smart arse users made comments like, this is either
a new BBS or a slack BBS because hardly any files had been
downloaded I thought, what a load of crap you fools, this BBS
was rebuilt and all counters were reset.
Hence, I wrote this program to alter the file counters on all
files to make the BBS look "Run In Again".
When you run FAKECNT the program will choose a random number
between 0 and 100 before altering the counter on each file in
your file base. Should the number be greater than 80 than no
change will be made. If less than 80 another random number will
be selected between 1 and 10 and the result will be stored in
the files download counter.
I chose to keep the fake counter below 10 to ensure the downlaod
figures were not unrealistic and the idea of making the odds
for a change being made at 80% was, again, to maintain realism.

3.0 Requirments
FAKECNT was tested on the following machines under DOS 6.21
with no problems and tested on RemoteAccess 2.50g1
XT 8080 EGA
286 HERC
486 SVGA
There are no structor changes from RA 2.00 through to 2.50g
on the files HDR information hence, the program will work
with no problems on 2.00, 2.01, 2.02 and 2.50g1
3.1 Environment
RA MUST be set in your DOS environment for FAKECNT to work.
Infact as you know RA will not work either.
3.2 FAKECNT Does the following on start up
On startup, FAKECNT looks for RA's system directory using
DOS Environment to do so. From there CONFIG.RA is found and
your name, BBS name and the path to your Files is obtained.
Hence, there is no configuration required for FAKECNT to
work, It's done automatically.
Once doing that, the program creates located your FDB files
which contains info about each of your files, from there
the alterations are made to the file counters.
3.3 To run FAKECNT
Very easy, you may put the program in a directory of it's own
(but I wouldn't bother as you will most likely use it once only
and delete it once it has aletered your file counters)
So, when you have decided on where to put FAKECNT, just run it!
No command lines and no configuration required.
Gee's don't you wish all programs were like that <Grin>
3
4.0 Problems
You should not have any unless your HDD is craped out or you
experience a power failure while FAKECNT is altering the files
counters which a power failure does no program that write to
disk any good anyay.
Seriously, you may experience one problem only ..
If the program has been modified (Illegally) the low level
security will stop the program from running. If that be the
case you may FREQ an original from my BBS. No probs at all!
But, since its a FREEWARE porogram I doub't the hackers would
bother cracking a FULLY operational program unless they want
to remove my name from it.
